Nintendo An All Time King In Game Developer’s Top 20 Publishers
No one’s contended to sneak Mario’s diadem just yet. Nintendo still lords
over the other publishers in the cutting-edge Top 20 report from Game
Developer.
Game Developer magazine’s 6th annual Top 20
Publishers report is now accessible (via Gamasutra) and it reads that
Nintendo, after unseating Electronic Arts last year, has held on to the
top one ranking. EA remained in the second slot, one ahead of rival
Activision – although it should be noted that Activision and Vivendi
Games are named separately (for the last time).
The rankings were observed by counting number of
releases, moderate review scores, and income for the period reaching
from August of 2007 until July 2008. Feedback from publishers and
industry professionals was also factored in.
Nintendo’s
superior ranking should come as little storm given the astounding
success the company has seen with its DS and Wii platforms. Nintendo
delighted the highest revenues of any publisher this year over all
programs, despite its relatively modest release schedule. Nintendo also
gained the peak average scores out of both Game Developer’s reputation
survey and elaborated review.
Fresh to the rankings this year (after a two-year absence) was Codemasters. The U.K. publisher’s presence dislodged Atlus. Sony Computer Entertainment also grappled to
make it into the top five.
